Good performance and great look<span '=">11/26/2018 5:43:33 PM

Pros: Never had any issues with this board. The LAN controller is very good and gives low latency connection over ethernet. I built my own PC and it was extremely easy to work with. Make sure you keep the instruction manual if you are building your own, though. Connections to a case aren" t="" super="" clear="" and="" you'll="" need="" to="" make="" sure="" they're="" all="" in="" the="" right="" place.="" <="" p="">

Cons: Haven't had any cons after over a year.

Other Thoughts: MSI is an incredible manufacturer in general. Every one of their products have all been pretty high quality. This board is no exception and is worth the purchase.

990fxa

Pros: I love this motherboard. As far as motherboards go it works as needed when needed. The point of this review is in hopes that MSI will see it and do something about their customer service or lack thereof. My original MSI Gaming 990FXA had somehow sprung a leak from the built in coolant system. I know this because there was a sticky substance coming from one of the heat sinks and leaking onto my video card. Upon seeing this I called MSI and they told me to send the motherboard in and they would send me a replacement. 3 weeks or so later I received the replacement motherboard. It didn't work. Tested with multiple video cards just to make sure mine wasn't shot from the leaking heat sink. Still nothing. Called MSI again and again they asked me to send in the motherboard which I did. On Tuesday which was another 2 weeks I received a motherboard. Not the motherboard I sent in, not a motherboard like it, but a COMPLETELY different board. Let me explain how different. My board uses DDR3, has an AM3 chip set, is a gaming motherboard, and costs about $140 from Newegg. So what did they send me you ask? They sent me a board that uses DDR4, has an AM4 chip set, costs only $65 from Newegg, and it isn't even a gaming motherboard!!!! Okay so it is, however unless they are upgrading my whole system I can't use a $65 dollar board. Specifically what they sent me is the MSI A320M GRENADE AM4 AMD A320 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard. While this is supposed to be a better board it isn't my board and it doesn't work with my system. How in the world can you mix up an AM3 chip set with an AM4 chip set? Not only that, but DDR3 vs DDR4? Anyway, they again and for the 3rd time told me to send back the motherboard and they would 'try to send out the correct board.' If I don't get a board that works for my system I am done with MSI as a company and will probably switch to someone like gigabyte. Again, I am leaving this review in hopes that MSI will see it and make some seriously needed changes with their customer service and returns departments. This review will also be posted under the Grenade mother board so others will be more aware of MSI customer service.

Msi 990fxa Gaming Bios Update

It was a great motherboard for as long as it lasted. Then a capacitator most likely blew up on me. Liquid came out dripping.<span '=">6/27/2018 8:18:00 PM

Pros: It worked.

Cons: Only lasted two years for big bucks spent.

Other Thoughts: Only if you get a warranty.

Beautiful, Expansive, Dragon stuffs.<span " ='="">5/20/2018 1:45:52 AM

Pros: Very good looking and great performing motherboard. Has a lot of great features from supporting a wide variety of add-in hardware to it's network game boost feature to it's command center giving you the power to try and tame this dragon of a beast. It will even triple crossfire though that option we never managed to use yet, lol. MSI did a superb job on this motherboard.

Cons: They are not made anymore. Shame, because I would buy a second one in 2018. I hope they have an AM4 equivalent?

Other Thoughts: Bought this for my girlfriend to upgrade her computer paired with an FX 8350 and 16gb of 1600mhz memory. She loved it. I wish I had bought a second one because they apparently stopped making them not long after. Bummer, cause I wanted to get myself one a few months later but was shut out. Guess for my personal computer I'll end up having to go from Phenom II to AM4 bypassing an FX system completely. Shame.
Also, initially it didn't support WIndows 10 even after we went ahead and upgraded. But thankfully it worked enough to not cause any major problems while MSI was working on providing drivers for it. It's now WIndows 10 compatible and will likely be around our house for a long time even if and when move up to AM4 machines. This would still be a very capable backup machine.

Pros: none

Cons: Well , bought this new 2 yrs ago and carefully took care of this computer. Alway have taken care of computer as my previous last nearly 6 yrs with no problems. Resided to give AMD and msi a try being that every raved about these component. Note never go on word of mouth, lesson learned, do your research and read about the capabilities of said products. Long story short two years later and hundreds and not thousands of hours later playing video games. The board unexpectedly went out. Returned it for warranty service and I got it back in less than two weeks. WHAT! Great right. Don't get your hopes high, service sent it back in worst condition. Broken Memory latch. With no post and video which was the reason it went in. Well i t wasn't fixed and now I have to buy a whole new computer because the board i had is no longer on the market. Rysen system. So in final msi has lost my business and I will let everyone know my story so it won't happen to them. RMA# RRD18006925

Msi 990fxa Windows 10 Drivers

great power, has its flaws, but overall one of the best for its time.<span '=">12/1/2017 11:37:03 PM

Pros: this board will support high end cpu" s="" and="" can="" handle="" crazy="" amounts="" of="" power.<br="">other than the cpu power socket being a bit more of a pita than other boards I have had its a roomy board and connects easily other than said exception.
bios is easy to navigate and if you have an unlocked cpu even not knowing too much about computers you can OC a bit with ease till it gets crazy with changing voltages etc.
drivers are a breeze to install for this board compared to others I have had in the past.
MSI has always been good to me when their stuff blows up

Cons: its a little thing but the cpu socket is a pita to couple and uncouple the cable to.
the vrm's get waaaay too hot even with the cooling system they have on them, I think a bit more time should have been spent on engineering better cooling because high end AM3+ cpu's eat enough power that its no wonder the board doesn't just melt with high OCing.

Other Thoughts: overall, if you consider AMD platforms when this board was in its prime its one of the best. even though mine failed almost a year in msi was quick and easy to deal with getting the rma done and giving me a new board. I did remove 1 star for the fact that it failed and fried my cpu. I was not even running crazy OC's (fx-8320 @ 4.2ghz at the time with no heat or crash issues). but this thing was a beast right till it died.

Hi All,

Ethernet Controller

I know this is rather long, but want to be as thorough as possible. I have an older motherboard, an MSI 990FXA-GD80 (MS-7640). Up until the Creators Update/Fall Creators Update, I had no problems at all. When the Creators Update was first released, I installed it, but after logging in I saw that my onboard Ethernet(Realtek Family GBE Controller) no longer worked - the messaging was that the device cannot start (code 10).
I figured this was an issue with the feature update being incompatible with my hardware, and just rolled back to 1607. Network connectivity was restored; all was well again. I kept 1607 up until a few days ago, until MS pushed the update to my machine - I had no choice but to install. Once again I had a code 10, device cannot start. I rolled back.
A few hours later, the update was forced through again. I rolled back, gave feedback as to why I was rolling back, but the update still kept being forced on me. I uninstalled the Upgrade Assistant; it would reinstall and install the update again. I probably uninstalled/had the update reinstalled more than 10 times. After that, my computer stopped booting.
I downloaded a fresh ISO to a thumb drive and reinstalled 1709 from scratch. Same issue - Code 10 for Ethernet adapter. I have now done the following, with no success:
1. Checked for any BIOS updates for my motherboard (I am current, no updates since 2015);
2. Checked MSI for any updated network drivers for my motherboard (there were none);
3. Searched internet by device instance path (PCIVEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_816810EC&REV_064&4784A6C&0&0058) ?and installed drivers ?that I found that matched my device;
4. Installed older drivers from the CD that came with my motherboard;
5. Disabled onboard Ethernet and purchased a Rosewill Gigabit PCIe LAN Card off Amazon and installed in a spare slot; same issue as the previous card (it shows up as a Realtek Gigabit PCIe LAN Card as well, same issue);
6. Hooked up wireless USB adapter, connected to wireless and attempted updating drivers from Device Manager and Windows Update;
I also searched the internet thinking surely other people have had this issue, but have found nothing.
Please help!
